coinciding with World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering organized an awareness activity that included distributing an educational brochure titled: “From Idea to Movement – How Engineers Change the Lives of Amputees.” The activity was conducted by Engineer Aya Talib Hassan, with the participation of Assistant Lecturer Maryam Ghassan Ghaffar and Engineer Hadeer Hossam Hashem. The brochure provided simplified information about the importance of prosthetic limbs and orthotic devices, the stages of their design and manufacturing, and the role engineers play in developing innovative solutions that help patients improve their quality of life and regain mobility and independence. The brochure also highlighted how engineering ideas can be transformed into practical applications that restore movement to amputees, emphasizing the importance of integration between medical and engineering fields to achieve the best rehabilitation outcomes. This activity reflects the department’s efforts to promote community awareness of biomedical engineering and assistive technologies and to highlight the humanitarian role of engineers in supporting people in need.
