Dr. Sajjad Alwan points out in his book “Chronic Diseases and Their Impact on Society” that these diseases do not affect only the health of the individual; rather, their effects extend to include the family and society as a whole. They lead to increased costs of treatment and healthcare, in addition to a decline in individuals’ productivity at work. He also explains that the spread of chronic diseases is linked to several factors, most importantly unhealthy lifestyles such as lack of physical activity, unbalanced nutrition, and smoking, in addition to psychological stress and genetic factors. These factors increase the risk of developing diseases that may remain with a person for long periods. From a social perspective, patients with chronic diseases may face difficulties in performing their daily activities, which affects their role within the family and society. In many cases, the family assumes responsibility for caring for the patient, which may cause additional psychological and financial burdens. Dr. Sajjad Alwan emphasizes the importance of preventing chronic diseases by spreading health awareness among members of society, encouraging physical exercise, and following a healthy diet, as well as conducting regular medical check-ups for early detection of diseases. Conclusion In conclusion, chronic diseases represent a major health and social challenge, which requires cooperation between individuals and health institutions to limit their spread and reduce their negative effects on society.
