In pursuit of the third Sustainable Development Goal (Health and Well-being), Lecturer Samer Hussein Mohammed organized a specialized scientific workshop titled: “The Impact of Nanoplastics in Tea on Human Health,” on Saturday 4/4/2026, attended by students, faculty, and those interested in health and environmental issues.
The workshop addressed a recent and significant topic highlighting nanoplastics—microscopic plastic particles that may result from the leaching of fine tea particles from hot plastic food containers. The workshop reviewed the sources of these particles and the mechanism of their transfer into the human body, along with an analytical review of the most prominent global scientific studies that have documented their potential impact on public health and the nervous and cellular systems.
During the workshop, the lecturer also discussed the persistence and accumulation of these health concerns, with a strong emphasis on raising public awareness about daily food choices. He advocated for shifting toward natural alternatives, such as using “super” tea or natural green tea bags, to reduce carbon emissions and protect the body.
The workshop saw significant engagement from the audience, with numerous questions and scientific contributions that helped shed light on proposals for alternative solutions to household plastic pollution.
This event is part of a series of scientific activities aimed at promoting health and environmental awareness in the community, with the goal of building a safer and more sustainable environment for all.
