A scientific seminar discusses the phenomenon of absenteeism and its impact on academic achievement in the Department of Quranic Sciences.

(Academic Absence: Its Causes, Effects, and Ways to Reduce It) Within the framework of educational efforts aimed at promoting academic awareness and raising the level of academic commitment, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Committee in the Department of Quranic Sciences and Islamic Education - College of Education, organized a scientific seminar entitled: “Academic Absence: Its Causes, Effects, and Ways to Reduce It.” The seminar was presented by Ms. Shadan Salah Abdul, Head of the Guidance Committee, and attended by Ms. Noor Saad Musahib, a committee member, and Ms. Samah Abbas. The seminar saw active student participation and keen interest in its content. The seminar began by highlighting the importance of the topic, noting that absenteeism is a phenomenon that directly impacts the quality of the educational process and its outcomes, reflecting a range of psychological, academic, and social challenges faced by students. The seminar addressed the most prominent causes of absenteeism, categorizing them into psychological and personal, academic, familial and social, as well as organizational and administrative factors. It clarified the impact of each factor on student behavior and commitment. The seminar also explored the consequences of absenteeism, highlighting its negative repercussions on academic achievement, students' mental well-being, and social behavior, in addition to its effect on discipline and the quality of educational outcomes within the institution. In addressing the issue, the symposium presented a range of practical solutions and recommendations, most notably: enhancing motivation to learn, activating the role of psychological and educational counseling, improving the learning environment, implementing accurate attendance tracking systems, and strengthening the partnership between families and educational institutions. The symposium concluded by emphasizing that addressing the phenomenon of absenteeism requires concerted efforts from all stakeholders to create a stimulating and supportive learning environment capable of achieving its academic and educational goals effectively.
