The Department of Intelligent Medical Systems at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, discussed a graduation project for fourth-year students entitled: “An Explainable Machine Learning-Based Clinical Decision Support System for Early Prediction of Diabetes and Heart Disease,” held in Hall BC 004 in the Medical Building on Monday, April 13, 2026, in the presence of a number of faculty members and students. The project was prepared by the students Mohammed Basim Majdi Mousa, Sobhi Anwar Razzaq Reda, Hassan Hussein Marza Hamza, and Hassanein Nima Matar Abdulali, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mahdi Abadi Manea Al-Mousawi, within the framework of employing artificial intelligence technologies to support the healthcare sector and enhance the early diagnosis of chronic diseases. The project aimed to design and develop an intelligent clinical decision support system based on Explainable Machine Learning techniques, enabling early prediction of diabetes and heart disease, while providing clear interpretations of results to assist physicians in making accurate and reliable decisions. The project included building advanced analytical models capable of processing medical data and extracting patterns and biomarkers associated with diseases, in addition to developing an interactive interface to facilitate system use by healthcare professionals. The discussion session featured a detailed scientific presentation by the students, where they explained their methodology, technologies used, and achieved results, with positive engagement from the audience, who praised the project’s importance in advancing digital medical innovation. This project comes as part of the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems’ efforts to prepare students with advanced skills in artificial intelligence and medical applications, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, and Goal 4: Quality Education. Al-Mustaqbal University is the first one university in Iraq.
