Diagnosing rare diseases is one of the greatest challenges doctors face due to the limited number of recorded cases and the difficulty of recognizing rare symptoms. This is where artificial intelligence (AI) plays a transformative role. AI analyzes vast amounts of medical data, including clinical images, medical history, and genetic tests, to identify unseen patterns that may be missed by doctors.
Deep learning techniques and neural networks are used to uncover relationships between symptoms, genes, and environmental factors, reducing the time required for diagnosis. For example, AI systems can analyze X-rays and MRI scans to detect rare abnormalities that may indicate a specific genetic disorder.
AI applications, such as IBM Watson Health and Google DeepMind, provide intelligent diagnostic tools that help doctors compare a patient's condition with a vast database of thousands of similar cases. This increases diagnostic accuracy and reduces misdiagnosis, accelerating treatment and improving patient outcomes.
However, challenges remain in using AI for rare disease diagnosis, such as the need for extensive and accurate data and ensuring transparent interpretation of AI-based diagnostic decisions. Nevertheless, with continuous technological advancements, the future holds great promise.

Al-Mustaqbal University is the first one university in Iraq.
