In a connected world, epidemics can spread at unprecedented speeds, making big data analysis a crucial tool for disease outbreak control. Big data analysis enables tracking the spread of epidemics, understanding their patterns, and making informed decisions on health interventions.
These technologies rely on collecting and analyzing massive amounts of data from multiple sources, such as hospitals, social media, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and even satellite images. Using AI algorithms, it becomes possible to identify hotspots where diseases may rapidly spread, allowing governments and health institutions to take proactive measures.
For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, big data analysis played a crucial role in tracking the virus's spread, predicting future waves, and evaluating the effectiveness of preventive measures. Data analysis tools also contributed to vaccine development by accelerating clinical trials through insights into different immune responses among patients.
However, big data use presents challenges such as privacy protection and data accuracy. Yet, with continuous advancements, big data will remain a vital tool in combating future epidemics.
Al-Mustaqbal University is the first one university in Iraq.
