In the era of digital transformation, cybercrimes have become one of the most pressing challenges facing societies and governments due to their direct impact on the economy, national security, and individual privacy. This highlights the importance of building an integrated digital investigation system that combines the expertise of technology specialists with forensic experts to ensure the integrity of investigations and combat cybercrimes effectively.

The development of such a system goes beyond security concerns; it is closely tied to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). By integrating technology with forensic practices, societies can build trust in institutions and protect critical infrastructures from cyber threats.

Key Components of the System:

Capacity Building: Training specialized teams in digital forensics equipped with the latest tools and techniques.

Expertise Integration: Bringing together cybersecurity specialists and traditional forensic experts to exchange knowledge and ensure reliable evidence.

Technological Infrastructure: Establishing advanced digital laboratories for evidence collection, preservation, and analysis.

Legal Frameworks: Developing laws and regulations aligned with international standards to ensure the admissibility of digital evidence in courts.

International Collaboration: Strengthening partnerships between local and international institutions to address cross-border cybercrimes.

By establishing a comprehensive digital investigation system, societies can effectively address modern crimes, enhance digital security, and contribute to the SDGs by building safer, more resilient, and just communities.

In this context, Al-Mustaqbal University, the first university in Iraq, reaffirms its commitment to supporting academic research and training in digital investigations and forensic sciences, contributing to sustainable development and strengthening Iraq’s role in addressing digital challenges.
