A Scientific Workshop Entitled: Glaucoma: Types, Major Symptoms, and Treatment Methods

In alignment with the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (Quality Education) and As part of the scientific activities organized by the Department of Optics Technologies at the College of Health and Medical Technologies, Al-Mustaqbal University, a scientific workshop was held under the title “Glaucoma (Increased Intraocular Pressure): Types, Major Symptoms, and Treatment Methods”, delivered by Mr. Ali Hadi Mueidi. The workshop introduced Glaucoma as one of the leading causes of vision loss worldwide, explaining that the disease occurs due to increased intraocular pressure, which leads to gradual damage to the optic nerve. The lecturer reviewed the main types of glaucoma, including open-angle and angle-closure glaucoma, and highlighted the most common clinical symptoms such as blurred vision, eye pain, and night vision disturbances. The workshop also included an explanation of the latest diagnostic and treatment methods, including medications that reduce intraocular pressure as well as surgical and laser interventions. Emphasis was placed on the importance of regular eye examinations for early detection and prevention of serious complications associated with the disease.
