As part of the scientific activities organized by the Department of Optics Technologies at the College of Health and Medical Technologies, a scientific workshop titled “Glaucoma: Its Types, Main Symptoms, and Treatment Methods” was held and presented by Dr. Ali Yousif, with the aim of raising awareness about this disease, which is considered one of the leading causes of vision loss worldwide.
The workshop provided a detailed explanation of the concept of glaucoma and its various types, including open-angle glaucoma, angle-closure glaucoma, and congenital glaucoma. It also highlighted the most important signs and symptoms that require early examination.
Additionally, the workshop presented the latest diagnostic methods and available treatments such as medical eye drops, laser procedures, and advanced surgical interventions that help maintain normal intraocular pressure.
The workshop aimed to enhance students’ and staff members’ understanding of the mechanisms of the disease and the importance of early detection in preventing permanent vision loss, while also linking theoretical information to the clinical aspects needed in the medical work environment.
