In alignment with the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (Quality Education), Assist. Lecturer Ibrahim Saad Abdul-Kadhim, Ms. Ghufran Sabah Ni’ma, and Ms. Fatima Haider Jasim delivered an awareness lecture for the students on “Social Media and Electronic Blackmail,” aiming to raise their awareness of safe social media practices and ways to reduce the risks of digital extortion.
The lecture addressed the most important proper behaviors that should be followed when using social media platforms, as well as the common mistakes that may make users vulnerable to exploitation or blackmail. It also explained the mechanisms of electronic blackmail, how it occurs, and key preventive methods to avoid falling victim to such practices, including protecting privacy, avoiding sharing personal information, and dealing cautiously with suspicious messages and links.
Additionally, the presenters provided a set of legal guidelines on how to respond in the event of a blackmail attempt, and the official authorities that should be contacted to ensure the protection of victims and accountability of offenders.
