In alignment with the third Sustainable Development Goal (Good Health and Well-Being), the Department of Optics Technologies organized a scientific seminar presented by Dr. Nilofer Ali Hamood as part of its awareness programs aimed at highlighting the serious health complications resulting from drug abuse.
The seminar provided a detailed explanation of how drugs affect the internal components of the eye, including the retina, lens, optic nerve, and vitreous body. It also outlined the mechanisms that can lead to acute inflammation, tissue damage, or partial to complete vision loss in some cases.
The lecture also addressed the main drugs associated with these damages, highlighting ocular signs that may help in the early detection of drug use, while emphasizing the necessity of prompt therapeutic intervention to prevent worsening eye injuries.
The seminar concluded with a discussion session in which students and attendees asked questions, focusing on the importance of awareness and prevention, and the role of educational institutions in confronting health risks related to drug misuse.
