Artificial intelligence constitutes one of the most prominent factors influencing contemporary cultural transformations, particularly in Third World societies that are witnessing a rapid expansion in the use of digital media. Applications of artificial intelligence—especially smart algorithms and social media platforms—have contributed to reshaping patterns of cultural reception and methods of media content production, which has, in turn, affected prevailing systems of values and social symbols.
The risk of these transformations lies in the susceptibility of local cultures to the influence of dominant global media discourses, a situation that may lead to the erosion of cultural specificity and the emergence of hybrid cultural patterns. Conversely, artificial intelligence offers genuine opportunities to enhance cultural diversity by enabling individuals and media institutions in Third World countries to produce digital content that reflects their identities and local issues at lower cost and with wider reach.
Accordingly, artificial intelligence can be viewed as a dual-impact factor, combining challenges related to the preservation of cultural identity with prospects for sustainable media and cultural development.
