Scientific Workshop at Al-Mustaqbal University Highlights the Role of the Arabic Language in Islamic Archaeological Inscriptions

On the occasion of World Arabic Language Day, the Department of Archaeology, in cooperation with the Department of Media, held a scientific workshop entitled “The Arabic Language in Islamic Archaeological Inscriptions and Writings.” The workshop was presented by the Course Coordinator of the Department of Archaeology (Asst. Lecturer Zaid Awad Atiyah) and a faculty member from the Department of Media (Asst. Lecturer Doaa Razzaq Abbas). This event was part of the scientific activities aimed at highlighting the status of the Arabic language and its civilizational role in documenting Islamic heritage. The workshop addressed the importance of the Arabic language in Islamic archaeological inscriptions and writings, considering it a primary source for studying Islamic history and civilization due to the religious, historical, and social meanings it conveys. It also highlighted its role in dating buildings and archaeological structures, as well as in identifying the development of Arabic calligraphy and its various styles throughout different Islamic periods. During the workshop, selected examples of archaeological inscriptions were presented, with explanations of the methods of reading and analyzing them, and a clarification of their importance in understanding Islamic architecture and arts. In addition, the role of media in introducing this cultural heritage and conveying it to society in a scientific and educational manner was emphasized. The workshop was attended by a number of faculty members, researchers, and students, and concluded with an emphasis on the importance of interdisciplinary integration and the need to pay greater attention to the Arabic language as a fundamental pillar in archaeological studies and in preserving cultural and civilizational identity.
