With the expanding knowledge of the cell and its functions at the molecular level, biotechnologists are now seeking answers to prevent life-threatening diseases, meet the growing demands for energy and food for an ever-increasing population, and address environmental issues that threaten our very existence on Earth. Biotechnology has thus emerged as a major force—not only industrially, but also as a field in which frontier areas of biology are integrated to enhance the quality of human life. This is a challenging and exciting time for the field of biotechnology.
To achieve these goals, the Department of Medical Biotechnology was established as one of the newly founded departments of medical biotechnology in Iraq.
Our vision is to produce competent professionals in the field of biotechnology who can apply advanced processes and applications that will significantly impact the current models in the medical, therapeutic, industrial, and healthcare sectors—providing a sustainable competitive advantage to society. Additionally, we aim to instill innovative thinking among the younger generation in the era of biotechnology and to nurture human resources that can meet both national and global needs.
