Under the Guardianship of Prof Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, a Qualitative Initiative, the first of its kind at the level of Iraqi Universities, has been launched under the title
"Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors for Sustainability"
This Initiative has been targeting Young Teachers & Students at various Levels of Education, whether at Universities or Secondary Schools, with the aim of providing diverse Education Experiences, in addition to promoting the Skills required for Future Jobs in the Field of Sustainability, being widely implemented through the Program of “Sustainability Ambassadors”, as well as Global Awareness Activities, and with the support of Al-Mustaqbal University Presidency.
We would like to note that Prof Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, has delivered a Speech, in which he has referred to a number of accomplishments that the University has achieved since its establishment in 2010, pointing out that the Title of the Current Initiative has been taken out of the University Slogan “Towards a Sustainable University", being the first to be adopted whether in Iraq, or even in the whole World.
He added that the University and in application to this Slogan has organized a variety of activities, including Awareness and Scientific Seminars, Conferences, Training Workshops, and more, in addition to introducing Sustainability Concepts into its Educational Curricula, as well as joining the Green Education Partnership with the UNESCO, all along with other daily practices, which comprise Rationalization of Energy Consumption, Gradual Shift towards Renewable Energies, Increase of Green Areas, Adoption of Sustainable Green Transportation as well as Treatment and Recycling of Waste with the aim of preserving Environment and reducing Pollution Levels.
It is worth noting that Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors for Sustainability Initiative has included four main areas, including
• Green Education;
• Climate;
• Policy & Economics; and
• Good Health & Sports.
These four areas have been classified into sub-categories that would cover, in one way or another, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
We are obliged to note that Prof Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, has clarified in a Statement released to the University Media that he hopes that this Initiative shall actively contribute to finding solutions to the different types problems confronting Society by conducting Practical Studies based on Real Data, Field Visits, as well as detailed questionnaires supported by evidence and facts, so that the diagnosis comes out with accurate results that can be utilized in applicable treatments. Meanwhile, he has pointed out that the University Presidency shall spare no effort to support any Projects or Case Studies proposed within this Initiative financially and morally.
Besides, the Ceremony has witnessed a Sports Event focusing on SDG 3 and SDG 4, which regard Good Health & Well-Being as well as Quality Education, followed by a review of Sustainability Ambassadors Teams constituted of Students and Group Leaders according to the sequence of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
After that Group Photos have been taken to Sustainability Ambassadors with the University President, and releasing doves in the University Space as a sign of spreading Peace in reference to SDG 16. Being accompanied by a group of University Academics and Sustainability Ambassadors, Prof Dr. Majdi has carried out a Field Tour through the University Campus, including Al-Mustaqbal Center for Renewable Energy Research, Artificial Intelligence Center, Mushroom Farm, Sustainable Arab House, Model Reserve, in addition to opening Solid Waste Incinerator Project, which has been recently imported by the University, which is considered as one of the best facilities that would contribute to the Treatment of Waste, and thus reducing Pollution Levels. The Tour has witnessed brief explanations of the above-mentioned Environmental Practices as well as the essential Role of Sustainability Ambassadors.
