Electronic Workshop Held by Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center on Renewable Energy – Wind Power as a Model

Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering Technologies, along with the follow-up of the Director of the Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center, the center held an online scientific workshop titled: “Introduction to Renewable or Clean Energy: Wind Power as a Model.” The workshop took place on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, at 12:00 PM. The workshop was presented by: – Asst. Lecturer Hameed Baqir Karaji – Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center – Prof. Dr. Sulwan Ubaid The session focused on fundamental concepts of renewable and clean energy, with special emphasis on wind energy as one of the most prominent global sources of sustainable power. The speakers discussed the working principles of wind turbines, factors influencing their performance, and the analytical tools and research instruments used in assessing renewable energy systems. The workshop witnessed active participation from students and individuals interested in the energy sector, who engaged in scientific discussions and inquiries, reflecting the growing interest in sustainable energy solutions and their role in supporting Iraq’s transition toward clean and reliable power. This workshop comes as part of a series of scientific activities organized by the Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center to enhance knowledge dissemination, strengthen applied learning, and develop students’ technical skills in the field of renewable energy, in alignment with the university’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Practical Scientific Workshop on Solar Energy and Research Tools for Renewable Energy Systems at Al-Mustaqbal University

The Department of Fuel and Energy Technologies Engineering at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a practical scientific workshop at the Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center titled: “Solar Energy and Research Instruments Used in Analyzing Renewable Energy Systems.” The workshop aimed to enhance students’ practical and theoretical understanding by offering hands-on exposure to the latest equipment and research projects conducted at the center in the fields of solar energy, hybrid systems, and energy storage. The workshop was supervised by: – Asst. Lecturer Hameed Baqir Karaji Habeeb – Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center – Asst. Lecturer Mohammed Sabah Malik – Department of Fuel and Energy Technologies Engineering – Asst. Lecturer Fatima Al-Zahraa Adnan – Department of Fuel and Energy Technologies Engineering The workshop included practical demonstrations and detailed explanations of solar energy system components, their operation mechanisms, types of solar panels, inverters, batteries, methods of efficiency calculation, determination of the Maximum Power Point (MPP), and the impact of environmental factors on system performance. Productive scientific discussions took place between students and the supervising staff, addressing challenges facing renewable energy applications in Iraq, the importance of supporting scientific research, and strengthening practical training to advance the clean-energy sector and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At the conclusion of the workshop, the supervisors praised the efforts of the Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center for supporting the educational process and providing an integrated research environment that allows students to apply their knowledge practically, preparing a new generation of engineers capable of leading Iraq’s transition toward sustainable energy.

Ongoing Lectures of the “Solar Energy Hackathon” Solar PV System Components

The Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center continues its training activities within the “Solar Energy Hackathon”, attracting wide participation from students and renewable energy enthusiasts, in an interactive academic environment that combines theoretical learning with practical applications. In one of the specialized sessions, researcher Israa Mohammed Hassan delivered an in-depth lecture on the components of photovoltaic solar energy systems, emphasizing the key principles and requirements to consider when designing or installing solar power systems—whether for residential use or for equipping offices, institutions, and companies. The lecture provided detailed insights into the main system components, including solar panels, charge controllers, batteries, and inverters, highlighting the vital role each part plays in ensuring efficiency and long-term reliability. Researcher Israa also stressed the importance of adhering to proper technical standards to avoid common installation mistakes, thereby enhancing both performance and durability of solar systems. These lectures come as part of the broader Solar Energy Hackathon competition, which aims to equip students with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in renewable energy, preparing a new generation of professionals to contribute effectively to the global shift toward sustainable, clean energy solutions. ,

The summer training program for students of the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies continues under the direct supervision of the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Energy Research. Students are actively participating in continuous field visits to several actual work sites, in order to observe the practical reality of engineering projects and engage directly with the technical and administrative aspects of implementation. This program aims to enhance the students’ practical skills and connect them with the real working environment, in alignment with labor market demands and in support of building a qualified and well-trained generation of engineers. Several field tours have already been conducted with the presence of Professor Dr. Silwan Obeid Wahid, the Director of the Center, who emphasized the importance of this training project in refining students’ abilities and broadening their technical knowledge. He noted that moving between various sites gives students diverse experiences and strengthens their understanding of the engineer’s role in different fields, whether in planning, supervision, or execution. This training project has provided great benefits to the students, offering them a rare opportunity to directly observe operational systems in both investment and government projects, interact with modern equipment and tools, and learn about real-world execution methods within a professional environment. The Al-Mustaqbal Center for Energy Research reaffirms its commitment to supporting and organizing such qualitative programs that contribute to student development and prepare them for entering the job market with high efficiency and professionalism.

A field visit for engineering students to observe the solar energy systems.”

As part of the ongoing summer training activities at the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Energy Research, the center organized a field visit for engineering students to observe the solar energy systems installed within the university. The aim was to connect theoretical knowledge with direct practical application. During the visit, students were introduced to the operational details of the solar systems, including installation methods, panel distribution, electrical connection systems, and load management techniques. They also received an on-site explanation of inverter and battery performance within a real working environment. The visit witnessed great engagement from the students, who expressed strong interest in the system components and benefited from the detailed explanations provided by the engineering staff of the center. This contributed to broadening their technical understanding of renewable energy projects and how they are implemented on the ground. These visits align with the center’s vision of promoting applied learning and encouraging students to think practically about sustainable energy solutions within educational institutions and key sectors in Iraq.

General Introduction to Renewable Energy

Al-Mustaqbal Center for Energy Research continues to welcome students from the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies as part of the summer training program, in an interactive academic environment with strong participation from the attending students. Today’s activities included a distinguished lecture titled “General Introduction to Renewable Energy,” delivered by: 🔹 Prof. Dr. Silwan Obeid Wahid 🔹 Dr. Hassan Mowafaq Ghani The lecture covered the fundamental concepts of renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, wind energy, and hydropower.
