Al-Mustaqbal University Leads Iraqi Universities in the Number of Highly Cited Research Papers, According to the Web of Science Ranking

In the latest bulletin issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Office of the Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new scientific milestone by ranking first among Iraqi universities in the number of Highly Cited Papers, according to the Web of Science classification for the period 2019–2024. The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, stated in a press release that the university s record of Highly Cited Papers has reached 47, enabling it to secure the top position among 49 public and private universities featured in the Web of Science ranking. The University of Baghdad ranked second, followed by the University of Technology in third place. Dr. Majdi congratulated the university’s faculty, students, and staff on this remarkable scientific achievement, urging further dedication and excellence not only in research but across all fields that align with the university’s vision and mission of continuous improvement. He also reaffirmed his support for all initiatives aimed at achieving the highest levels of excellence and success.

Al-Mustaqbal University records the highest number of honorees in this recognition.

Al-Mustaqbal University Leads Its Peers in Research Output on Sustainable Development Goals

The report evaluates the research output of Iraqi universities based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, President of the University, stated that Al-Mustaqbal University secured the top position among private universities with 916 research papers, followed by the Islamic University with 57 papers and Al-Farahidi University in third place with 6 papers. The university's research contributions were distributed across five key SDGs: SDG 7 (Clean Energy) led with 495 papers. SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) followed with 169 papers. SDG 13 (Climate Action) accounted for 137 papers. SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) included 87 papers. SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) recorded 28 papers. This achievement underscores Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to impactful research that advances sustainability and global development goals.

Al-Mustaqbal University… Ranked First Among Private Universities and Second in Iraq in the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) 2025, in Its First Edition…

The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, announced that Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved first place among private universities in Iraq and ranked second nationally in the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Ranking (ISR) 2025. The results were announced today, Thursday, November 21, 2024, in the first global edition of this ranking, which was recently launched in partnership between the British Times Higher Education and the German Schmidt Science Foundation.

Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in a Workshop on the Shanghai University Ranking.

Al-Mustaqbal University, represented by the Directors of Scientific Affairs, Quality Assurance, and Global Rankings, participated in the central workshop on the Shanghai Ranking, organized by the Supervision and Scientific Evaluation Authority and hosted by the University of Baghdad, with the presence of representatives from Iraqi universities. The workshop addressed the criteria of the Shanghai Ranking, one of the world s most prestigious academic rankings, focusing on research performance, including publications in high-impact journals and the number of faculty members who have received global awards. It also analyzed the position of Iraqi universities compared to regional and international institutions, highlighting challenges and opportunities for improvement. The workshop emphasized the importance of supporting scientific publication, forming multidisciplinary research teams, raising awareness of proper citation practices, and establishing a dedicated fund to support scientific research.

Arab Universities Ranking

Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, congratulated the university on its outstanding achievements in the 2024 Arab University Rankings, announced today, Thursday, December 19, 2024, by the Association of Arab Universities at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Hasan Shaker highlighted that Al-Mustaqbal University secured top positions, ranking first among private universities and colleges in Iraq and fourth nationally, following the University of Baghdad, the University of Technology, and Al-Mustansiriyah University, out of 41 Iraqi universities included in the ranking. Regionally, the university ranked 36th in the Arab world, advancing six places compared to last year’s results.

The fifth International Scientific Conference on Sustainable Engineering Techniques

In line with the vision of Al-Mustaqbal University, represented by its President, Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, to actively participate in local and international scientific forums, the university had a distinguished presence at the Fifth International Scientific Conference on Sustainable Engineering Technologies. The conference was organized by the Middle Technical University in partnership with Al-Mustaqbal University and was held from December 11 to 12, 2024, at Duhok Polytechnic University. The conference was inaugurated in the presence of Professor Dr. Wadhah Amer Al-Tamimi, President of the Middle Technical University and representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the representative of the Minister of Higher Education in the Kurdistan Region, Professor Dr. Ari Adel, President of Duhok Polytechnic University, and Professor Dr. Muzafar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision at Al-Mustaqbal University, representing its President, Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi. Additionally, the event was attended by the Presidents of Northern Technical University, University of Diyala, University of Zakho, University of Aqrah, and Al-Noor University. The conference featured opening speeches delivered by the President of the Middle Technical University, the President of Duhok Polytechnic University, and the representative of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, alongside keynote speakers from prestigious international universities. Attendees also had the opportunity to explore innovative research and projects presented in the form of posters, with Al-Mustaqbal University showcasing ten outstanding research projects at its exhibition booth. Professor Dr. Muzafar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision at Al-Mustaqbal University, delivered a speech on behalf of the university's leadership, conveying the greetings of Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi and his best wishes for the success of the conference. In his address, he emphasized the importance of fostering partnerships between universities both locally and globally to enhance the reputation of higher education in Iraq. He highlighted the significance of activating these partnerships through scientific conferences, workshops, joint research initiatives, and knowledge exchange. The appearance of researchers from Al-Mustaqbal University on the list of the top 2% most-cited scientists worldwide...

Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new scientific milestone with the appearance of seven of its researchers on the list of the top 2% most influential and highly cited scientists worldwide, according to a study conducted by Stanford University researchers, based on the number of scientific citations.
