This annual report is led by CIHEAM Bari in cooperation with the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED), and aims to examine the state of innovation and entrepreneurship among youth in Mediterranean countries The participation took place through a meeting held via Zoom on Friday, April 17, 2026, with the involvement of several international academic figures, including Ms. Lynda Achkouty Mouawad, Director of the SEED Business Incubator at Antonine University, and Ms. Silvia Marchionne, Project Manager at UNIMED. Al-Mustaqbal University was represented by Professor Dr. Tariq Jawad Al-Moussawi, Head of the Scientific Affairs Department This participation comes within the framework of preparing a scientific chapter entitled The Role of Ecosystem Players in Connecting Startups with Companies: Focus on Universities in Southern Mediterranean Countries which highlights the role of universities in linking startups with institutions and enhancing innovation ecosystems in Southern Mediterranean countries During the interviews, the university’s experience in supporting innovation and linking scientific research with practical application was presented, in addition to its role in supporting startups and small and medium enterprises. The discussion also emphasized the importance of technology transfer in transforming research outputs into practical, applicable solutions The meeting also highlighted the university’s contribution to implementing several key projects in the fields of clean energy, water resource management, sustainable agriculture, and technology, as successful models of strengthening collaboration between the university, society, and the private sector

In a step aimed at expanding the horizons of international scientific cooperation, Al-Mustaqbal University has renewed its academic partnership with the University of Petra in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan through a recent official visit, with the goal of enhancing research fields and academic excellence This initiative came under the direction of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi. Professor Dr. Tariq Jawad Kadhim, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department, conducted an official visit to the University of Petra, where he met with several academic leaders from the Faculty of Engineering The discussions focused on developing joint research projects, conducting scientific tests within advanced collaborative programs, and strengthening efforts in academic accreditation, obtaining international certifications, and improving global university rankings Both sides also explored ways to advance previous activities under the agreement and planned to organize joint workshops and scientific conferences, contributing to the exchange of expertise and the improvement of academic outcomes This step reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to strengthening its regional and international presence, and to building effective strategic partnerships that support the development of its academic and research programs, in line with modern higher education requirements
Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, the university launched a large-scale tree-planting campaign across its campus and surrounding areas. During the initiative, ten thousand perennial tree seedlings were planted, reflecting the university’s commitment to supporting the National Afforestation Program and promoting environmental sustainability while protecting the campus environment The campaign was organized in coordination with the Diwan Affairs Department at the University Presidency, which supervised and followed up on the implementation of the planting activities as part of the university’s vision to expand green spaces and improve the quality of the urban environment within the campus This initiative comes within the university’s broader efforts to support environmental initiatives and address climate change by enhancing vegetation cover and reducing the carbon footprint, in addition to providing a healthy and attractive educational environment for students and staff The campaign witnessed wide participation from academic leaders, university professors, staff members, and students, particularly students from the Sustainability Ambassadors Initiative, who played an active role in carrying out the planting activities. Seedlings were distributed and planted in several locations across the campus, contributing to increased biodiversity and adding a sustainable aesthetic character to the university’s facilities The campaign aims to promote environmental awareness and strengthen the culture of environmental volunteering among students, as well as encourage initiatives that contribute to protecting natural resources and enhancing the role of academic institutions in serving society Through this initiative, Al-Mustaqbal University also seeks to encourage volunteerism among students and strengthen their sense of institutional belonging, contributing to building a cooperative university community committed to environmental protection and community development At the conclusion of the event, the President of the University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, expressed his sincere appreciation to the Diwan Affairs Department at the University Presidency for their significant efforts in organizing and successfully implementing this important environmental event. Al-Mustaqbal University continues to strengthen its digital transformation efforts by developing its technological systems as part of the Smart University Project launched by the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi. The system is the electronic educational management system, which focuses on organizing and distributing teaching assignments, auditing lectures, and managing the teaching workload in a way that aligns with the structure of faculty members’ duties and academic requirements The meeting was attended by several officials from the university presidency and specialists concerned with this file.
