In a strategic move to enhance its academic standing and open global opportunities for its graduates, Al-Mustaqbal University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to launch a hosted research-based PhD program in advanced engineering disciplines. The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and Prof. Dr. Shahril Azmin Sundi, Dean of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at USM. The program focuses on key specializations that align with labor market needs and technological advancements, including: • Communications Engineering • Computer Engineering • Control and Automation • Microelectronics • Power Systems and Electrical Machines Under the agreement, USM will be responsible for student admissions, supervision, and awarding the degree, while Al-Mustaqbal University will serve as the host institution for the program. The collaboration includes the following key elements: • Joint Supervision: PhD students will be co-supervised by faculty members from both universities, with opportunities for visiting professors to foster research collaboration. • Global Standards: Students are required to meet the academic and research requirements in accordance with USM regulations. • Scientific Publication: Students must publish their research in reputable international journals indexed in the Web of Science or Scopus, contributing to the international ranking and visibility of both universities. Partnership Goals The five-year agreement aims to: • Equip students with advanced research skills and deep theoretical knowledge. • Promote knowledge exchange and technology transfer between Iraq and Malaysia. • Generate high-quality research outputs that support institutional development and innovation.
