Under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the First Babylon International Conference on Countering Intellectual Extremism and Terrorism officially commenced on Monday, April 14, 2025. The event was held under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ameen Al-Yasiri, President of the University of Babylon, and Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, with the participation of the University of Al-Hillah and a distinguished group of local and international academics and researchers. The conference aims to promote values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence while offering scientific and practical strategies to confront extremism. It also emphasizes the pivotal role of educational institutions in cultivating a moderate intellectual discourse that rejects violence. In the opening speech delivered on behalf of Al-Mustaqbal University’s President, Prof. Dr. Ammar Al-Husseini, Dean of the College of Law, highlighted the importance of the event as a collaborative platform uniting efforts of universities, government institutions, and civil society organizations in combating extremist ideologies. He praised Iraqi universities for nurturing critical thinking and community service. The conference included over 115 research papers across 10 major themes, with Al-Mustaqbal University contributing 42 research papers. Several of its faculty members were awarded for their outstanding research, including: Asst.
