Inauguration of the Artificial Intelligence Technology Incubator at Al-Mustaqbal University as Part of the 3rd International Future Sustainability Week
On the third day of the 3rd International Future Sustainability Week, held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, Al-Mustaqbal University inaugurated the Artificial Intelligence Technology Incubator—the first of its kind among Iraqi universities—during a ceremony attended by a distinguished group of academic and governmental figures. In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, emphasized that the launch of the incubator is a strategic step toward fostering innovation and scientific research in AI, and reflects the university’s commitment to sustainable development, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8), which focuses on economic growth and innovation-driven employment opportunities. Prof. Dr. Nidhal Khdhair Al-Abbadi, Director of the Al-Mustaqbal Center for AI Applications, presented a detailed overview of the incubator’s mission and objectives, which include: Supporting researchers and innovators in developing AI-based solutions to address both local and global challenges. Enhancing collaboration between universities, research centers, and the private sector to advance technological development. Aligning innovation with sustainable applications in key areas such as healthcare, energy, and smart agriculture. Speakers at the event highlighted the incubator as a practical model for realizing Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG 17) through strengthening multi-sectoral partnerships, and stressed the importance of involving civil society in these efforts, in line with the directives of the Iraqi Digital Path Council. The launch of this incubator marks a milestone in Iraq’s journey toward a knowledge-based economy, powered by artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and a focus on sustainability and empowering local talent.
