Under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Dr. Halo Al-Askari, and during his official visit to Al-Mustaqbal University, a memorandum of scientific cooperation was signed between the university and the Ministry of Environment. This initiative comes in line with the directives of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and reflects the university's outstanding achievements, practices, and research in the field of sustainable development and institutional partnerships. The memorandum outlines several areas of mutual interest, including: Supporting environmental research and studies. Providing scientific consultations and environmental impact reports. Organizing joint conferences and workshops. Implementing training programs for capacity building. Promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices. Conducting environmental surveys and promoting related activities through both parties’ digital and media platforms. The signing ceremony commenced with a welcoming speech by Prof. Dr. Muzafar Sadiq Al-Zuheiri, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision at the university, in which he welcomed the Minister and his accompanying delegation. He emphasized that this memorandum marks a genuine starting point for productive joint efforts in protecting the environment, reducing pollution and emissions, and lowering the carbon footprint—especially in light of escalating global climate challenges. For his part, His Excellency the Minister expressed his appreciation to the university leadership, represented by Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, and the academic staff, praising the warm reception and generous hospitality. He also commended the ambitious environmental initiatives and successful practical experiences witnessed during the visit, stating: “What we saw today at Al-Mustaqbal University is a source of pride. The university represents a living model of sustainability—not just theorizing but turning ideas into tangible realities that positively impact both the environment and society.” Among those who welcomed the Minister and his delegation was Prof. Dr. Nidhal Khdhair Al-Abbadi, Director of the Al-Mustaqbal Center for AI Applications, where the Minister toured the center and viewed several innovative AI-based projects that contribute to achieving sustainable development goals. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister for Administrative Affairs, along with several government officials from environmental departments in the Middle Euphrates region and Babil Province, as well as Asst. Prof. Dr. Abbas Al-Bawi, the university’s Assistant for Scientific Affairs, in addition to a group of deans, department heads, and faculty members. At the conclusion of the event, Prof. Dr. Muzafar Sadiq Al-Zuheiri, on behalf of the University President, presented the Al-Mustaqbal University Shield to the Minister, along with an official copy of the certificate granted to the university by Times Higher Education, documenting Al-Mustaqbal University’s global first-place ranking in SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) as part of the 2025 Times Impact Rankings—an unprecedented achievement among Iraqi and Arab universities.
