Professor Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, announced that the university has obtained a Copyright Protection Certificate from the National Center for Copyright Protection and Neighboring Rights at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, for its document titled “Intellectual Property at Al-Mustaqbal University.” With this achievement, Al-Mustaqbal University has become the first academic institution in Iraq to launch and establish an institutional policy document dedicated to intellectual property protection. In a statement to the university’s media office, Professor Majdi emphasized that this milestone represents a historic step in the university’s journey toward leadership and excellence. He noted that the document was first introduced during the Future Sustainability Week Festival held last April, and now stands as a pioneering institutional reference that strengthens the culture of creativity and innovation in Iraq. He further explained that intellectual property protection is not merely a legal formality, but rather a fundamental pillar in building a knowledge-based economy driven by ideas and innovations. This protection, he stressed, ensures exclusive rights for innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs, enabling them to develop their work without fear of infringement or imitation. It also creates investment and commercial opportunities that grant institutions a competitive edge, attract potential partners and investors, and generate new income streams through licensing or transfer of rights. Moreover, it provides a safe environment that fosters research and development, while supporting entrepreneurs in securing funding for their ventures. Concluding his statement, the University President reaffirmed Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to its pioneering role in empowering innovators and researchers, highlighting that this achievement will further entrench the culture of intellectual property as a cornerstone in building a modern Iraq founded on knowledge and innovation.
