The Women’s Affairs Division at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a seminar titled “Towards Fairer Laws: The Importance of Women’s Role in Drafting Legislation”, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sahira Qahtan Abdul Jabbar, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, and conducted by Asst. Lecturer Ilaf Jasim Mohammed. The seminar was held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in coordination with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies, Department of Fuel and Energy Technologies. It was part of the implementation of the Third National Plan for Women, Peace, and Security, under the Pillar of Participation and Institutional Reform, Clause 2. The seminar discussed the significance of women’s role in the legislative process and the challenges they face in reaching decision-making positions in politics. It focused on achieving social justice and equality for women through laws and highlighted the impact of women’s participation in drafting more inclusive policies. Additionally, the discussion addressed the importance of increasing women’s representation in parliaments and legislative councils, supported by statistics on women’s success in various parliaments worldwide. A discussion was opened for students and faculty members to exchange ideas on the best ways to empower women in political legislation. At the end of the seminar, it was emphasized that women’s participation in political legislation is not just a rights issue but a necessity for creating more just and balanced societies.
