Due to the importance of developing women’s leadership at Higher Education, enabling them to participate in the Decision-Making Process, and having effective presence in Committees & Leadership Positions, Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research has adopted programs related to Women Empowerment, in cooperation with Iraqi Universities as well as International Organizations, according to which Women Empowerment Department has been established at the Ministry according to the Ministerial Order No. 14 of 2021, being in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution No. 1325. Accordingly, Women Empowerment Units have been created at all Universities and Formations affiliated with the Ministry as per the Ministerial Order No. 479 issued on 7th June 2021.

An activity entitled: “What is Electronic Blackmail? How Does It Start? And How to Prevent It?”

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Division, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering Technologies / Department of Computer Engineering Technologies, with the participation of Assistant Lecturers Simaa Mohammed Jawad and Ruya Abdul Wahab, organized an awareness activity in cooperation with first-year students on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and was conducted under the title: “What is Electronic Blackmail? How Does It Start? And How to Prevent It?” The activity included the preparation and distribution of an informative brochure addressing the phenomenon of electronic blackmail, providing a clear definition, explaining how it occurs, and presenting a set of preventive guidelines aimed at mitigating its risks and promoting digital awareness. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among students and the university community about the dangers of unsafe internet use, emphasizing the importance of protecting personal privacy and adopting safe digital practices when using online communication platforms. This activity falls under the protection and prevention framework, offering guidance to safeguard individuals from electronic blackmail. Key recommendations included refraining from sharing personal information or images with untrusted parties, using strong and regularly updated passwords, and enabling privacy settings on social media platforms. The program also highlighted the importance of exercising caution when interacting with suspicious links or unknown accounts, as well as the necessity of promptly reporting any blackmail attempts to the relevant authorities. A distinguished celebration on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Al-Mustaqbal University Celebrates International Women’s Day 🌸 Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division organized a distinguished celebration on the occasion of International Women’s Day, in appreciation of women’s active role in building society and supporting the path of progress and creativity. The celebration was held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in the Student Activities Hall, in the presence of Professor Dr. Muzaffar Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, who delivered a speech praising the historic role of women and offered congratulations to women on their day, commending the achievements made by many women. A number of college deans, heads of departments, male and female faculty members, as well as officials of the Women’s Affairs units and committees, in addition to a number of students, attended the event. Ms. Mary Imran Al-Ta’i, Assistant Lecturer and Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, delivered a speech expressing the status of women as a point of light that guides the path and contributes to shaping generations and building the future, praising the efforts of the officials of the units and committees in organizing distinguished activities at the university. Cultural and artistic activities were also presented, along with the display of documentary photos of the activities of the Women’s Affairs Division in the colleges. An art exhibition was also held with the participation of the College of Fine Arts, which included drawings created by students. A traditional Arab heritage session embodied authentic Iraqi heritage and the traditional attire of women. Poetry recitations were presented by two female student poets from the university in both classical Arabic and colloquial Arabic, which received the audience’s appreciation. The event concluded in an atmosphere of joy and appreciation from the attendees, who expressed their gratitude for the efforts made in organizing this event, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the status of women and their role in the academic community.

An awareness activity entitled: (Negative Phenomena Facing Women and Girls)

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Health and Medical Technologies / Department of Radiological Techniques, within the framework of the National Strategic Executive Plan for Iraqi Women – the third, first paragraph (Protection of Women and Combating Violence Against Them), and in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal Five (Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment), on Tuesday 28/2/2026, organized an awareness activity entitled: (Negative Phenomena Facing Women and Girls) Presented by Ms. Riam Raad Lazim in the Department of Radiological Techniques. The activity highlighted the most prominent negative phenomena that women and girls may face, including domestic violence, harassment, cyber blackmail, as well as the risks of drugs and their health, psychological, and social impacts. It also outlined methods of prevention, legal and societal response mechanisms, and the importance of spreading awareness to protect women and promote a safe and supportive environment. The activity aims to raise community awareness, provide psychological and social support for women, and promote a culture of respect and protection within the university environment. This activity comes as part of the department’s efforts to promote a culture of empowerment and prevention of negative phenomena affecting women and society.

An awareness activity entitled: (Discipline Laws and Regulations)

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Magdy, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Health and Medical Technologies / Department of Radiologic Technology organized an awareness activity, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), on Tuesday, February 25, 2026. The activity was entitled: (Discipline Laws and Regulations) and was presented by Ms. Farah Alaa Hamza in the Department of Radiologic Technology. The session focused on explaining the laws and regulations related to the discipline of staff, faculty members, and students, emphasizing the importance of adhering to attendance and departure times, respecting internal regulations and administrative instructions, and maintaining a professional and ethical work environment within the institution. It also highlighted the role of students in complying with university policies, preserving college property, and showing respect to the teaching staff. The activity aims to instill a culture of discipline and responsibility, and to promote an organized university environment based on mutual respect and adherence to laws. This activity is part of the protection and prevention pillar and reflects the department’s efforts to support institutional order and enhance legal awareness within the university community.

Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Fine Arts / Department of Art Education, Asst. Lect. Suhaila Kadhim Jassim organized an awareness workshop titled "Combating All Forms of Violence Against Women and Girls" on Saturday, March 7, 2026. The workshop aims to: • Raise community awareness regarding the gravity of electronic violations faced by women across social media and digital platforms. • Define forms of digital violence for participants, such as electronic blackmail, defamation, harassment, and privacy violations. • Clarify the psychological, social, and legal impacts resulting from this type of violence. • Explain legal pathways, protection methods, and reporting mechanisms for cybercrimes. • Promote a culture of safe technology use and build a digital environment that is safer and more respectful of women. This initiative comes as an implementation of the Third National Action Plan for Women, Peace, and Security (Prevention and Protection Pillars) and in achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 5: Gender Equality). Scientific Awareness Workshop Entitled: (University Women’s Skills in the Holy Month)

Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and under the supervision of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, the Women’s Affairs Division at the College of Agricultural Technologies, supervised by Mary Imran, organized a scientific awareness workshop entitled: “University Women’s Skills in the Holy Month” The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Sorour Hafez Mohammed and attended by a number of college staff and female students. It aimed to empower university students to develop their academic, personal, health, and social skills during the holy month of Ramadan, enhancing their ability to balance study and daily life. The workshop covered four main axes: • Academic Skills: Time management and effective study techniques. • Personal Skills: Building self-confidence and developing positive habits. • Health and Nutrition Skills: Proper nutrition to maintain mental and physical activity. • Social and Spiritual Skills within the Protection Pillar: Promoting safe communication, conscious community participation, and instilling values of respect and mutual support, protecting students from negative pressures and strengthening their positive presence in society. The workshop witnessed wide engagement from the students, who expressed appreciation for this initiative, highlighting its role in supporting their academic and personal journey. It also emphasized the importance of protection as a key pillar in shaping the university woman’s personality during the holy month. An awareness course entitled “The Role of Women in the Field of Medicine.”

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, In cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Dentistry organized an awareness course entitled “The Role of Women in the Field of Medicine” on Tuesday, 24/2/2026, presented by Zahraa Haider Kazem Abdul Ameer. This course was held within the framework of implementing the Third National Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security – Pillar of Participation and Institutional Reform – Paragraph One, and in pursuit of achieving Goal Three of the Sustainable Development Goals (Good Health and Well-being). The course aimed to strengthen the role of women in the medical field and provide them with full support in education and academic development, enabling them to attain positions that qualify them to practice their profession in healthcare. Particular emphasis was placed on women’s contributions in gynecology and pediatrics, the treatment of women’s diseases such as breast and uterine cancer, as well as in natural and cesarean childbirth. It also highlighted the importance of enhancing women’s roles across various regions, especially in underserved and remote areas, through the development of infrastructure, hospitals, and educational institutions to achieve this noble objective.

Awareness Workshop: “High Dowries and Their Negative Impact on Women’s Delayed Marriage”

Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Education, organized an awareness workshop delivered by Prof. Dr. Thanaa Bahaa Al-Din Abdullah entitled: (High Dowries and Their Negative Impact on Women’s Spinsterhood). The workshop was held on Monday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m. at the college. The event was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Asst. Prof. Ahmed Al-Jundi, the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Lecturer Hussein Al-Shammari, as well as a number of faculty members and administrative staff. The workshop addressed the concept of dowry in Islam in accordance with what is stated in the Holy Qur’an and the noble Prophetic traditions. It also discussed the causes of the phenomenon of high dowries in our society and their negative effects, with a focus on women’s spinsterhood. The session further explored possible solutions to this phenomenon and presented appropriate recommendations. The workshop witnessed active engagement, with participants contributing their opinions and perspectives on the topic. This activity falls the executive plan of the Iraqi National Strategy for Women 2026, Axis Three, Paragraph (2). It also contributes to achieving Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which is Quality Education.
