Al-Mustaqbal University Organizes Workshop on Women’s Role in Emergency Preparedness Al-Mustaqbal University – Women’s Affairs Division, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering, organized an awareness workshop titled “The Role of Women in Emergency Preparedness”. The session was held in the Department of Building and Construction Engineering Technologies and presented by Lecturer Sally Silan Hussein on April 10, 2025. The workshop was conducted as part of the implementation of the Protection and Prevention Pillar under Clause Three (Early Warning Systems). It aimed to highlight the importance of involving women in emergency preparedness and disaster response efforts, enhancing their awareness of preventive measures, and building their capacity to handle various crises—whether natural, health-related, or societal. The workshop concluded with recommendations to involve women in emergency planning and coordination committees, provide specialized training programs, break gender stereotypes that limit women’s roles in crises to humanitarian aspects, and activate their participation in all phases of response and recovery. It also emphasized the need to launch awareness campaigns to educate women and girls about their rights and responsibilities during emergencies and to integrate women’s needs into national disaster and emergency plans, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 5.
