Al-Mustaqbal University Holds Workshop on “Protecting Women from Violence and Armed Conflicts” Al-Mustaqbal University – Women’s Affairs Division, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering, organized a workshop in the Department of Building and Construction Engineering Technologies. The session was conducted by Lecturer Maryam Mohammed Mousa as part of the implementation of the Protection and Prevention Pillar under Clause Six (Implementation of the UN Resolution). The workshop, titled “Protecting Women from Violence and Armed Conflicts”, was held on April 20, 2025, at Al-Mustaqbal University. The workshop aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by women during armed conflicts and the urgent need to protect them from all forms of violence, particularly sexual, psychological, and social violence. It also emphasized raising awareness about the importance of enabling women to access legal aid, psychological support, and appropriate health services, while ensuring their safety in areas of displacement and conflict. Furthermore, the session focused on enhancing women’s participation in peace and security efforts, raising community awareness about the impact of conflicts on women and girls, and encouraging the adoption of national policies and legislation that ensure comprehensive protection of women’s rights during times of crisis. The workshop concluded with key recommendations, including the need to enforce laws criminalizing violence against women and establish effective mechanisms for their implementation. It also called for integrating women’s needs into humanitarian relief and emergency response plans, training security and health personnel on gender-sensitive responses, launching awareness campaigns to reject violence and promote a culture of community peace, and ensuring women’s inclusion in decision-making processes related to conflict management and peacebuilding—in line with Sustainable Development Goal 5
