Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the University’s Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the College of Science, organized an awareness workshop entitled “Violent Extremism… Its Causes and Ways of Addressing It” on 11/2/2026. The workshop was held the framework of efforts aimed at promoting intellectual security and reinforcing a culture of moderation within the university community. The workshop addressed the concept of violent extremism and its intellectual, social, psychological, and economic causes, highlighting its negative impacts on individuals and society, particularly on youth. It emphasized the importance of spreading awareness and activating the role of educational institutions in building a moderate discourse based on dialogue and acceptance of others, in addition to empowering women to play their active role in community prevention. This activity aligns with the objectives of the Iraqi National Strategy for Women 2026, particularly the pillar of Protection and Prevention from Violence, which stresses the need to strengthen awareness programs and build a safe educational environment free from extremism, thereby supporting community peace and achieving sustainable development. The workshop was attended by a number of faculty members and students who demonstrated notable engagement through interventions and discussions that enriched the session’s themes, affirming the importance of continuing such purposeful intellectual activities.
