In a new step that reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s leadership at both the national and international levels, the university has signed a joint scientific and technical cooperation memorandum with the Energy Conservation and Improvement in the Built Environment (ECIBE) organization, a specialized non-governmental entity registered with the NGO Department of the Council of Ministers Presidency in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. This partnership aligns with the university’s vision—championed by its President, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi—to build strategic relationships that effectively contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the energy sector, which is a vital pillar for the continuity of economic and social systems. The significance of this step is further reinforced by Al-Mustaqbal University’s outstanding global achievement of ranking first worldwide in SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) according to the 2025 Times Higher Education Sustainability Rankings. The memorandum aims to strengthen research cooperation, exchange technical expertise, and develop innovative solutions to reduce energy consumption and enhance efficiency within the built environment—whether in existing buildings or in future urban planning and design processes. The partnership is also expected to unite the efforts of multiple academic disciplines, including civil, architectural, and electrical engineering, in addition to design, urban planning, and other fields that support sustainable development and community well-being. The agreement was signed on behalf of Al-Mustaqbal University by Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, and on behalf of ECIBE by Asst. Prof. Dr. Jru Ali Hama Raza, Director of the organization. The signing ceremony, held in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, was attended by Prof. Dr. Tariq Jawad Al-Moussawi, Director of Scientific Affairs, and Dr. Samir Badrawi, Director of Cultural Relations at the university.
