College of Medicine Holds an Awareness Workshop on Misconceptions in Treating Neonatal Jaundice

Under the generous patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Walaa Luay Al-Fallouji, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Medicine, in cooperation with the University Women’s Affairs Division, organized an awareness workshop entitled “Common Misconceptions in Treating Neonatal Jaundice in Newborns” on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. The workshop was presented by Dr. Widad Hamza Shakir, who discussed the most common incorrect traditional practices and folk remedies that some mothers may use in an attempt to treat neonatal jaundice, including the use of traditional methods or herbal treatments that may pose risks to newborn health. She also emphasized the importance of raising health awareness and adhering to proper medical treatment by consulting hospitals and specialized physicians to ensure the safety of infants. The workshop was attended by a number of faculty members and students of the College of Medicine. Assistant Lecturer Mari Imran Al-Taie, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division at Al-Mustaqbal University, also participated in the event. This workshop comes within the framework of the Protection Pillar and the development of women’s self-protection skills, and aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), reflecting the commitment of the University Presidency and the College Deanship to promoting health awareness and serving the community.
