On Thursday, March 26, 2026, the College of General Medicine at Al-Mustaqbal University organized an awareness workshop titled "Water Scarcity in Iraq: Challenges, Solutions, and the Importance of Conservation," via the Google Meet platform, with the participation of a number of faculty members. This event was part of a series of scientific and awareness-raising activities organized by the university in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation, and Goal 3 on good health and well-being. This workshop is part of the college’s ongoing commitment to promoting environmental and health awareness within the university community and fostering a culture of individual and collective responsibility in the face of escalating environmental challenges. The workshop aimed to highlight the problem of water scarcity in Iraq as a real challenge affecting people’s lives and the future of natural resources, and to explain its direct implications for public health and the environment, as well as to emphasize the importance of rationalizing water consumption and the role of health education in reducing diseases linked to water scarcity or pollution. The workshop included scientific lectures and panel discussions addressing the reality of water resources in Iraq, the challenges associated with climate change and mismanagement of resources, as well as a review of the most prominent possible solutions, such as improving water use efficiency, applying modern techniques in resource management, and promoting a culture of conservation within institutions and households. The workshop saw significant engagement from the audience, with questions and comments that enriched the discussion and reflected the growing awareness and interest in environmental and health issues within the university community. The College Dean’s Office emphasized its keenness to organize such awareness-raising events, which contribute to promoting environmental and health culture, stressing the importance of collective efforts to address the water scarcity crisis and to encourage positive behaviors that ensure the sustainability of natural resources for future generations. Al-Mustaqbal University is ranked first among private universities.
