Commercial advertising plays a vital role in the economy because it is linked to the marketing of goods, services, and ideas through production and consumption processes. Advertising is an art form aimed at raising awareness and promoting products, thereby contributing to the circulation of wealth, the growth of national income, and the employment of the workforce. Commercial advertising is classified as a professional business activity managed by specialized companies for profit, in accordance with Iraqi Commercial Law No. (30) of 1984. It is also linked to sustainable production and consumption and contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 12 issued by the United Nations in 2015. Commercial advertising is characterized as an impersonal medium that reaches the public through various channels such as television, newspapers, and the internet; it is a paid activity subject to scientific planning aimed at influencing consumer behavior. It differs from public service announcements, which focus on raising awareness, and from the media, which focuses on news and education. Advertisements vary according to the audience, objective, and geographic scope, as well as the media used, whether traditional or modern. With technological advancements, digital advertising has emerged, characterized by speed and widespread reach, and relies on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, thereby enhancing its ability to reach a broad audience. Advertising, in both its traditional and digital forms, contributes to stimulating commercial activity, increasing sales, and improving the economic balance, in addition to its role in creating job opportunities and reducing unemployment and poverty. Thus, commercial advertising is considered an essential tool in supporting the national economy and achieving sustainable economic development, in line with modern international goals. Asst.
