With the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, their applications in the medical field have become increasingly prevalent—from smart diagnostics to robotic surgeries and electronic health records management. While AI holds great promise in improving healthcare quality and reducing human error, its implementation raises significant ethical challenges that must not be overlooked.

1. Privacy and Data Confidentiality:
Protecting sensitive medical data is one of the most pressing concerns. AI systems require vast amounts of data for training, which raises fears regarding patient privacy, data misuse, and information leaks.

2. Bias and Fairness:
AI algorithms may reflect biases present in the training data. If the data do not represent diverse demographic groups, the AI system may produce unfair or inaccurate medical decisions, especially affecting marginalized communities or minorities.

3. Legal Responsibility:
In the event of a medical error resulting from an AI-generated decision or recommendation, a critical question arises: who is legally responsible? Is it the doctor, the system developer, or the manufacturer? This challenge requires reevaluation of the current ethical and legal frameworks in healthcare.

4. Loss of Human Connection:
Over-reliance on AI could undermine the essential human interaction between doctor and patient. Compassion and personal understanding remain fundamental aspects of care that machines cannot easily replicate.

Sustainability and Health (SDG 3):
Ethical and balanced use of AI in medicine supports Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. When applied responsibly, AI contributes to more effective, inclusive, and sustainable healthcare systems, helping to ensure healthy lives for all.

Conclusion:
AI in medicine is not a magic solution—it is a powerful tool that requires ethical and legal boundaries. National and international policies must be developed to strike a balance between technological advancement and human dignity, ensuring sustainable and humane use of AI in healthcare.

Almustaqbal University, The First University in Iraq.
