Al-Mustaqbal University Hosts a Specialized Workshop to Strengthen Iraqi Scientific Research in Collaboration with Clarivate

Al-Mustaqbal University hosted this morning a specialized workshop organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in cooperation with the global Clarivate organization, as part of the national strategy for partnership between the two sides aimed at developing Iraq’s scientific research system and enhancing its presence and impact at both national and international levels. The workshop witnessed the attendance of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, and the President of the University of Babylon, Prof. Dr. Ameen Al-Yasiri, in addition to a large number of vice-presidents, deans, directors of scientific affairs and quality assurance units, and postgraduate students from public and private universities in the governorates of Babylon, Najaf, and Karbala. The workshop opened with a speech delivered on behalf of the University Presidency by Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuheiri, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision at the university, who welcomed the participants and Clarivate representatives. He emphasized that this workshop represents an important scientific milestone in the path of advancing research in Iraq, as it aims to empower researchers in effectively utilizing leading global research platforms such as Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports (JCR), and to promote a culture of responsible and rigorous academic publishing. Al-Zuheiri also highlighted that hosting this academic event reflects the university’s ambitious vision and mission in making scientific excellence and innovative research a core pillar of its strategy. He noted that Al-Mustaqbal University has affirmed its national leadership by winning four major scientific awards at the Iraq Education Conference 2025, including the Best Iraqi University Award for 2024, as well as excellence awards in engineering, medical, and agricultural sciences. The workshop was presented by Mr. Anas Obeid, Senior Client Consultant at Clarivate, who reviewed the services offered by the organization and explained how to benefit from them. He also clarified methods for distinguishing reputable scientific journals from predatory ones and discussed strategies for increasing research citations. Moreover, he provided a comprehensive analysis of Iraq’s research activity over the past ten years based on Web of Science data, highlighting the progress of Iraqi academic institutions in recent years. In a statement to the university media, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, stressed that this event serves as a platform for constructive dialogue and the exchange of expertise among researchers and academic institutions. He affirmed that Al-Mustaqbal University continues to support strategic initiatives that enhance the standing of Iraqi scientific research and strengthen its competitiveness in global rankings.
