Ministry of Planning Honors Al-Mustaqbal University as Iraq’s Leading University in Sustainable Development Practices

In an official ceremony held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the Ministry of Planning honored Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to supporting and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and for placing the university among Iraq’s leading institutions in scientific rankings. The honor was presented during the launch of Iraq’s Third Voluntary National Review on the Sustainable Development Goals submitted to the United Nations High-Level Political Forum in New York, under the theme: “Responsible Investment… Reconstruction and Justice.” During the ceremony, Dr. Maher Hammad Johan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning for Technical Affairs, emphasized that the report reflects Iraq’s full commitment to the 2030 Development Agenda. He praised the role of Iraqi universities, particularly Al-Mustaqbal University, in supporting this path by making sustainability a central focus in education programs, scientific research, and community service. Upon receiving the award, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi expressed his pride in this recognition, affirming that Al-Mustaqbal University remains committed to implementing its programs and initiatives to achieve its vision of becoming a sustainable university by 2030, in line with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Iraq’s national agenda for sustainable development. This honor represents international acknowledgment of the university’s efforts in embedding a culture of sustainability across education, research, and community projects, reinforcing its position as one of Iraq’s leading academic institutions actively contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals at both national and global levels.
