The College of Fine Arts – Department of Design held a scientific workshop on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, titled "The Psychology of Space in Interior Design", with the participation of faculty members and students interested in the fields of design and interior architecture.
The workshop addressed the concept of space as a perceptual and psychological dimension that extends beyond its physical definition within a building. It emphasized that human interaction with interior environments is not limited to physical elements such as walls and furniture, but rather involves a sensory and cognitive system that directly influences emotions, behavior, and patterns of spatial engagement.
The session highlighted the psychology of space as a field that examines the relationship between spatial organization and human perception. It demonstrated the critical role of design elements—such as proportions, lighting, colors, furniture layout, and circulation paths—in shaping spatial experiences and generating diverse emotional responses, including comfort, familiarity, openness, and concentration.
The workshop further أكد that interior design is a deliberate process aimed at creating a comprehensive spatial experience with psychological and cultural dimensions, where space becomes a visual and sensory medium reflecting function and influencing user behavior.
The workshop aimed to provide an analytical perspective on the psychology of space by exploring the dynamic relationship between humans and their environments, and by identifying effective strategies for utilizing interior design elements to create more balanced and functional spaces.
