Al-Mustaqbal University Hosts Scientific Symposium on Artificial Intelligence in Ophthalmology Prof. Dr. Nidhal Khdhair Al-Abbadi Highlights the Role of AI in Vision Science

In line with its strategic vision to equip graduates—particularly those from the Department of Optical Techniques—with the skills needed to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare industry, Al-Mustaqbal University organized a scientific symposium titled: “Artificial Intelligence in Ophthalmology.” Held under the direct supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Zahraa Haleem Al-Qaeem, Dean of the College of Health and Medical Technologies, and in accordance with the guidance of the University President, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, the symposium aimed to explore the integration of artificial intelligence technologies in modern eye care practices. This event was part of the university’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being and Goal 4: Quality Education. A key highlight of the symposium was the impactful lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Nidhal Khdhair Al-Abbadi, Director of Al-Mustaqbal Center for Artificial Intelligence Applications, entitled: “Artificial Intelligence and Vision Science.” In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Al-Abbadi explored how AI is revolutionizing the field of ophthalmology—from early diagnosis to treatment planning—emphasizing its potential to assist optometrists and ophthalmologists in making more accurate and timely decisions. His insights demonstrated the essential role AI plays in enhancing clinical outcomes and driving innovation in vision-related healthcare services. The symposium also featured the following lectures: Prof. Dr. Mustafa Rajab Al-Najjar from the Middle Technical University, who discussed “The Future of Medicine in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” Lecturer M.M. Ali Hadi Muaydi from Al-Mustaqbal University, who presented on “The Use of AI in Measuring Corneal Thickness.” At the closing ceremony, Dr. Zahraa Al-Qaeem extended her sincere thanks to all guest speakers and attendees. She particularly praised Prof. Dr. Nidhal Al-Abbadi for his continued efforts in advancing interdisciplinary applications of AI and supporting the university’s vision of academic excellence and innovation. The event concluded with the presentation of honorary shields and certificates of appreciation to the speakers in recognition of their outstanding scientific contributions. Third Lecture of the Summer Training Program – Microcontrollers (Arduino)

As part of the ongoing Summer Training Program supervised by the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Artificial Intelligence Applications at Al-Mustaqbal University, the third lecture in the training series was held on Monday, June 16, 2025. The session was delivered by Eng. Mohammed Saad Abais, a member of the center's technical team. Entitled: “Microcontrollers (Arduino)”, the lecture provided both theoretical insights and practical demonstrations on programming microcontrollers and integrating them with various sensors to build responsive and intelligent systems. Real-life electronic project examples were showcased, helping students develop hands-on experience in areas closely related to artificial intelligence and robotics. The session witnessed active participation from students, reflected in their questions and technical discussions, which highlighted their strong interest and understanding of the topic. This interaction further demonstrated the effectiveness of the training program in achieving its educational and practical objectives. Fourth Lecture of the Summer Training Program – Ethics of Artificial Intelligence

As part of the Summer Training Program supervised by the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Artificial Intelligence Applications at Al-Mustaqbal University, the fourth lecture was held on Monday, June 16, 2025, entitled: “Ethics of Artificial Intelligence”, delivered by Programmer Sarah Sadoon Abbas, a member of the center’s team. The lecture highlighted key ethical challenges faced by AI technologies, including: Algorithmic bias and unfair discrimination Privacy and data confidentiality Transparency and accountability in automated decision-making Ethics of robotics and autonomous systems The session included real-world case studies and interactive discussions with students to understand the societal impact of these issues and their implications for decision-making. The lecture aimed to raise ethical awareness among students in developing and using AI technologies, preparing them to appreciate the human and moral dimensions of technological innovation. Al-Mustaqbal AI Center Integrates Smart Sensors in Beginner Project Workshops

As part of its commitment to practical learning, the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Artificial Intelligence Applications at Al-Mustaqbal University has introduced and implemented several smart electronic sensors in training workshops designed for beginner students. The hands-on sessions featured sensors such as: 🔹 Oxygen & Pulse Sensor – MAX30100 🔹 Ultrasonic Distance Sensor – HC-SR04 🔹 Gas & Smoke Sensor – MQ-2 🔹 Temperature & Humidity Sensor – DHT11 🔹 Rain Detection Sensor Students engaged in both theoretical explanations and real-world applications, developing basic projects using microcontrollers like Arduino and ESP32. These activities helped students enhance their understanding and sparked creativity in embedded system design. The center continues to foster an innovative learning environment that equips students with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in the world of AI and smart technologies. The workshop attracted significant participation, showcasing the latest applications of virtual reality technology across various fields such as education, healthcare, and industry.
