Meeting of the Heads of Women’s Affairs Units in the Colleges at Al-Mustaqbal University

Under patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and under the guidance of Professor Dr. Muthaffar Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, the Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, Assistant Lecturer Mary Imran Mahdi, held a meeting for the heads of the Women’s Affairs Units in the colleges on Tuesday, 9/12/2025, at 11:00 a.m. During the meeting, Professor Dr. Muthaffar Al-Zuhairi presented directives and recommendations regarding the organization of awareness workshops for female staff members and students on issues related to women. He also emphasized the importance of holding workshops, initiatives, and activities through which women can be supported. During the meeting, the meeting agenda was distributed, which included welcoming and introducing the members, clarifying roles and responsibilities, and discussing the annual/semester work plan (pillars and axes). The discussion also focused on the Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 4 (Quality Education). Tasks were distributed, follow-up mechanisms for official correspondence with the Ministry were determined, and the documentation of activities was addressed.

Awareness and Educational Campaign titled: “Smoking: Its Health Hazards, Methods of Prevention, and Its Impact on the Sustainability of Physical and Mental Health for Individuals and Society.”

Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, the Women’s Affairs Division at Al-Mustaqbal University, in cooperation with the Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit in the College of Education, Prof. Dr. Thanaa Bahauddin, organized an educational awareness campaign on smoking, its health hazards, methods of prevention, and its impact on the sustainability of physical and mental health for individuals and society. The campaign was held on Sunday, 7 December 2025, at 11:00 a.m., in the Humanities Building, fifth floor. The awareness campaign witnessed the participation of the Women’s Affairs Committee representatives from all departments of the college, in addition to department heads, several faculty members, and students. This activity falls within the Iraqi National Strategic Plan for Women – Third Axis, Paragraph (1), aiming to enhance community awareness of the negative effects of smoking.

Awareness Campaign on the Occasion of World AIDS Day (HIV)

Under the patronage of the esteemed President of Al-Mustaqbal University the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the College of Science / Department of Intelligent Medical Systems, organized an awareness campaign on the occasion of World AIDS Day (HIV) on (6/12/2025), held in the hall of the Intelligent Medical Systems Department at the College of Science. The campaign was presented by Instructor Aheeb Hashem Kareem, with the participation of: • Assist. Lecturer Mary Imran Mahdi / Head of the Women’s Affairs Division • Staff members of the Intelligent Medical Systems Department who contributed to organizing the event The campaign included an introduction to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), its modes of transmission, methods of prevention, as well as an emphasis on the importance of health awareness within the university community and the role of modern treatments in enabling patients to lead stable lives. This activity comes as part of the efforts of the Women’s Affairs Division to support public health and raise awareness, in alignment with the third goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (Good Health and Well-Being).

Awareness Campaign Titled “Combating Violence Against Women… Together Toward a Safe and Just World”

Under the patronage of the esteemed President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems, organized an awareness campaign titled: “Combating Violence Against Women… Together Toward a Safe and Just World” on (7/12/2025). The campaign, conducted by Assist. Lecturer Najat Hameed Jasim, aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of physical, psychological, economic, and digital violence against women, and to highlight its negative impact on families and society. The activities included presenting awareness materials, offering guidance on prevention and handling cases of violence, introducing available support services, in addition to messages encouraging women’s empowerment and the creation of a safe environment. This initiative comes within Al-Mustaqbal University’s efforts to promote human values and foster a culture of respecting and protecting women.

Awareness Campaign on the Dangers of Drug Abuse

The Women’s Affairs Division at Al-Mustaqbal University, in cooperation with the Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit in the College of Education, Professor Dr. Thanaa Bahaa Al-Din, organized an awareness campaign on the dangers of drug abuse. This activity aimed to raise awareness among university students through the use of posters and informational brochures that illustrate its negative effects on individuals and society. The campaign took place on Monday, December 6, 2025, and falls within the National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women / Third Pillar, Paragraph 1.

A Special Event to Bid Farewell to Professor Dr. Sahira Qahtan Abdul-Jabbar

Under the patronage of the esteemed President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division held a special event to bid farewell to Professor Dr. Sahira Qahtan Abdul-Jabbar, in recognition of her distinguished journey of dedication and outstanding work within the division. The event took place on 2/12/2025, where the division’s staff expressed words of gratitude and appreciation for her valuable efforts and the clear impact she left in strengthening the role of women within the university. During the event, a warm welcome was extended to Lecturer Mary Imran Mahdi as she assumed her duties as the new Head of the Women’s Affairs Division. Attendees wished her success in leading the division and continuing its path of development and achievement in alignment with the university’s plans and its vision supporting women’s empowerment. The event concluded in an atmosphere filled with appreciation, gratitude, and optimism for a new phase of constructive work within the division.

An Educational Awareness Campaign titled (The Harmful Effects of Drugs and Women’s Health Awareness)

Awareness Campaign for Female Patients on the Harms of Drugs and Their Health Impact In implementation of the Third National Plan for Women, Security, and Peace / Protection and Prevention Pillar for 2025, and within Paragraph Two regarding the importance of women’s health awareness and promoting behaviors aligned with a healthy lifestyle, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Division and the Department of Biomedical Engineering, organized an awareness campaign titled: “The Harms of Drugs: Health Awareness for Women”, targeting female patients at Al-Imam Al-Sadiq Hospital. The campaign featured an interactive and educational awareness program, informing participants about the dangers of improper drug use and its effects on women’s general and reproductive health. It also provided practical guidance on the safe use of medications, methods for preventing drug misuse, and the importance of adhering to medical instructions to avoid health complications. The organizers emphasized the importance of raising women’s awareness about the risks of drug misuse, equipping them with the knowledge needed to protect their own health and the health of their families, and encouraging them to make informed and healthy decisions. This activity is part of the Biomedical Engineering Department’s ongoing efforts to enhance the role of women in the healthcare field and to promote health awareness among female patients in accordance with public health and safety standards. An Awareness Seminar titled (Cyber Violence and Digital Exploitation Against Women)

Al-Mustaqbal University Organizes a Seminar on Cyber Violence Against Women The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs representatives in the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics, and under the supervision of the Women’s Affairs Division, held an awareness seminar entitled “Cyber Violence and Digital Exploitation Against Women.” This event aligns with the implementation of the Third National Action Plan for Women, Peace, and Security – Protection and Prevention Pillar 2025, specifically Article Five concerning negative phenomena that women may face. The seminar covered the following topics: • Definition of cyber violence and its various forms • Digital exploitation and methods of prevention • Laws and legislation related to women’s rights • Guidelines to enhance digital security and protect privacy • Emphasis on fostering a safe university environment for women Participants praised the initiative and expressed their positive engagement, emphasizing the importance of continuing such awareness activities.
