The chromones found in the dried roots of Saposhnikovia divaricata include cimifugin; in fact, Saposhnikovia divaricata is a main source of cimifugin. Vinpocetine is a synthetic version of vincamine derived from periwinkle; it is characterized by potent anti-inflammatory properties that allow it to reduce immune cell infiltration and suppress the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential influence of a topically-applied combination of cimifugin and vinpocetine gels on a model of a psoriasis-like inflammatory skin reaction. To this end, we divided 48 albino BALB/c mice into six groups. All groups except for the negative control group received imiquimod topically (daily, for 7 days) for the induction of psoriasis-like skin lesions. A group received imiquimod (5%) only (positive control), while four other groups were also treated with a clobetasol (0.05%) cream, a cimifugin (3%) gel, a vinpocetine (3%) gel, or a combination of cimifugin (3%) and vinpocetine (3%) gels, once daily, for 7 days; the aforementioned treatments were first applied 7 days after the pharmacological induction of the lesions. Our findings revealed that the topically-applied combination of cimifugin-and vinpocetine-containing gels had an important anti-psoriatic effect, as seen by the diminishing of the skin levels of tumour necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-17, and interleukin-23, thereby improving the imiquimod-induced histological changes in mice. We conclude that a topically-applied combination of cimifugin and vinpocetine can exert substantial anti-psoriatic activity. © 2025, ZITA Medical Management. All rights reserved.

The widespread usage of the lanthanide group in the literature fascinated many researchers all over the world in recent years. Comprehensive compact information in imaging and therapeutic applications leads to presenting the recent reports in favor of supporting photodynamic treatment in both in vivo and in vitro. This review introduces upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) from a quite profound standpoint from general details to sophisticated cutting-edge technology in biomedical engineering, imaging, and drug delivery for introducing a professional level of designing nano-drug carriers, theranostic applications in order to fulfill effective therapeutic approaches for cancer treatment. This study will also interpret mechanisms, different synthesis methods, and various functionalized of UCNPs in nanoscience. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

Nanoparticles provide promising advantages in advanced delivery systems for enhanced drug delivery and targeting. The use of a biodegradable polymer such as PLGA (poly lactic-co-glycolic acid) promotes improved nanoparticle safety and, to some extent, provides the ability to modify nanoparticle surface properties. This study compared the effect of altering the surface charge on the translocation of PLGA nanoparticles across excised nasal mucosal tissues. Nanoparticles (average diameter of 60–100 nm) loaded with Nile Red (lipophilic fluorescent dye) were fabricated using a nanoprecipitation method. The effects of nanoparticle surface charge were investigated by comparing the transfer of untreated nanoparticles (negatively charged) and positively charged PLGA nanoparticles, which were modified using PAMAM dendrimer (polyamidoamine, 5th generation). All nanoparticles were able to be transferred in measurable quantities into both nasal respiratory and olfactory mucosae within 30 min. The total nanoparticle uptake was less than 5% of the nanoparticle mass exposed to the tissue surface. The cationic nanoparticles showed a significantly lower transfer into the mucosal tissues where the amount of nanoparticles transferred was 1.8–4-fold lower compared to the untreated negatively charged nanoparticles. The modification of the nanoparticle surface charge can alter the nanoparticle interaction with the nasal epithelial surface, which can result in decreasing the nanoparticle transfer into the nasal mucosa. © 2022 by the authors.

Petroleum hydrocarbons are one of the most prevalent and ubiquitous environmental pollutants, causing health and environmental risks, so some isolates from cows and buffalos were used in this study to remove these pollutants. Nine isolates of Lactobacillus spp from 20 samples of cows and buffalos milk types. 5 Lactobacillus acidophilus isolates were used in this study because of their excellent production of bacteriocin compared with the other species. The isolates were purified as follows: 70% saturation of ammonium salt followed by gel filtration on Sephadex -G150 was used to purify the bacteriocin. It resulted in a 47.75 % yield with 4.7-fold purification. The results of this study showed the use of 80μg/ml of bacteriocin increased the removal of hydrophobic pollutants from the burned motor and engine oils by 41% after 24 hours, which was more efficient than high doses of bacteriocin. For example, 100 μg/mL of bacteriocin removed only 33% of the contaminants. Furthermore, by extending the incubation period to 7 days, the hydrocarbon degradation percentage was increased by 78% in engine oil and 89% in burned motor oil. Thus, it can be concluded that bacteriocin bioremediation is an efficient and cost-effective biological treatment for eliminating petroleum hydrocarbons from water and protecting natural resources. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
