An Educational Workshop Entitled: “Women’s Empowerment and Protection from Gender-Based Violence”

Under the patronage of the Honorable President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries, organized an educational workshop entitled: “Women’s Empowerment and Protection from Gender-Based Violence.” The workshop was attended by a number of female students and staff members, with the participation of a distinguished group of faculty members interested in issues of empowerment and equality. This activity was held within the framework of the University’s efforts to enhance community awareness and to promote a safe and supportive academic environment for women. The workshop aimed to raise awareness of gender concepts, highlight the various forms of gender-based violence that women may face, and introduce the available protection and support mechanisms at both the legal and social levels. It also addressed the pivotal role of academic institutions in empowering women and enhancing the active participation of female students in educational and professional pathways. The workshop included several interactive themes, most notably: • Clarifying the concept of gender-based violence, its causes, and its consequences. • Reviewing prevention and protection strategies, as well as psychological and legal support mechanisms. • Highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5 related to gender equality. The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations emphasizing the need to promote a culture of respect and equality within the university community and to strengthen programs that support women, thereby contributing to their protection, empowerment, and active participation in various academic and societal fields. A workshop entitled: “Water is Life… Let Us Preserve It.”

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the College of Agricultural Technologies, organized a workshop entitled “Water is Life… Let Us Preserve It.” The workshop was supervised by Asst. Lecturer M.M. Mari Imran Mahdi, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, and presented by Asst. Lecturer M.M. Suroor Hafidh Mohammed from the College of Agricultural Technologies. It was held on Saturday, January 3, 2026. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of water and to highlight simple and effective ways to conserve every drop, as every drop makes a difference. It also emphasized the pivotal role of women and families in promoting a culture of rational water consumption, as they are directly responsible for managing household resources—starting from changing daily usage habits to monitoring maintenance, repairing leaks, and adopting water-saving technologies to ensure sustainability. Enhancing community awareness of the risks of water scarcity and climate change, as well as introducing optimal water-use practices, is a fundamental element in preserving water and environmental security and in building an informed society capable of facing the challenges of diminishing water resources. This activity was implemented in accordance with the Third National Action Plan for Women, Peace, and Security / Prevention and Protection Pillar, and in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and Goal 13 (Climate Action). Al-Mustaqbal University ranks first among private universities in national classifications.

A workshop entitled (Food Security and the Role of Women in Strengthening It)

Under the patronage of the respected President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the College of Health and Medical Technologies / Department of Dental Technology, organized a workshop entitled (Food Security and the Role of Women in Strengthening It), presented by (Ms. Inas Faeq Faraj), a member of the Women’s Affairs Committee, on 31/12/2025. Women play a pivotal role in strengthening food security, as they are the main responsible party for managing food within the family in terms of selecting food types, preparing it, storing it, and ensuring its safety. Supporting the role of women through education, health awareness, and economic empowerment is considered a basic element in achieving sustainable food security and building a healthy society capable of facing food challenges. In implementation of the Third National Action Plan for Women, Peace, and Security / Prevention and Protection Pillar / Fourth Paragraph, and in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal Three (Good Health and Well-being).

Awareness Seminar Entitled: “Rationalizing Water Consumption Is a Moral Responsibility”

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the College of Education, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Rationalizing Water Consumption is a Moral Responsibility” for first-year students of the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences. The seminar was delivered by Prof. Dr. Thanaa Baha Al-Din, Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College; Asst. Lect. Mary Imran, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division at the University; and Asst. Lect. Jaafar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi. It was held on Tuesday, 30/12/2025, at 9:00 a.m., in Hall 108, Humanities Building. The seminar addressed the concept of rationalizing water consumption and the current water situation in Iraq. It highlighted the reasons for water conservation, including religious reasons, such as the prohibition of extravagance in using water even during acts of worship, and the meaning of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) saying: “Do not waste water, even if you are on the bank of a flowing river.” It also discussed economic reasons, such as the high cost of water desalination and purification, and environmental reasons, including preserving ecological balance. Furthermore, the seminar reviewed government initiatives to rationalize water consumption through community awareness programs, support for installing water-saving devices, and water pricing policies that encourage conservation. Community initiatives were also discussed, including campaigns by schools, universities, and civil society organizations, as well as the use of social media to spread environmental awareness. This activity comes within the implementation of the Third National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security / Prevention and Protection Pillar, and in support of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).

An awareness workshop entitled: “Women and Education: The Key to Sustainable Development.”

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Unit in the College of Education / Department of English Language, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division, organized an awareness workshop entitled: “Women and Education: The Key to Sustainable Development.” The workshop was delivered by Asst. Lect. Saja Zuhair Hamed, a member of the Women’s Unit in the Department of English Language, on December 21, 2025. The workshop focused on Sustainable Development Goal Four (Quality Education) and was also held within the framework of the Recovery Pillar, Paragraph (2) of the implementation of the National Strategy to Combat Violence Against Women and Girls (2025–2030). The workshop was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Roudhan Salman, Dean of the College of Education, and Lect. Dr. Salam Hassan Makki, Head of the Department of English Language. It also witnessed the participation and attendance of Asst. Lect. Mary Imran Mahdi, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division at the University, in addition to a number of members of the Women’s Unit, female and male teaching staff, and a large number of students. This active participation contributed significantly to enriching the discussion and ensuring the success of the workshop’s themes and objectives.

An awareness seminar on: Women’s Addiction to Social Media

Under the patronage of the respected President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division at Al-Mustaqbal University, in cooperation with the College of Education, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thanaa Bahaa Al-Din, held an awareness seminar entitled: Women’s Addiction to Social Media, presented by Asst. Lecturer Iltifat Aliwi Al-Husseini, Head of the Women’s Affairs Committee in the Department of English Language. The seminar was held on Wednesday, 17/12/2025, at 12:00 p.m. in Hall 501, for the students of the Department of English Language. This activity comes ضمن the activities of the National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women / Third Axis / Paragraph (1). The awareness seminar addressed the concept of social media addiction, its effects, and its negative repercussions on women, the family, and society. It also discussed methods of prevention and treatment of this phenomenon. The activity was attended by the Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, Asst. Lecturer Mary Imran Mahdi, who provided her remarks on the topic and praised the presenter for her method of presenting the subject, the positive interaction with students, the use of real-life examples, and the ways of dealing with cases of addiction.

An educational seminar entitled: “Student Discipline Laws and Regulations and Their Impact on Sustaining Mental Health”

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the Women’s Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit in the College of Education, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thanaa Bahaa Al-Din, held an educational seminar entitled: “Student Discipline Laws and Regulations and Their Impact on Sustaining Mental Health” on Wednesday, 17/12/2025, at 9:30 a.m., in Hall 309, with the participation of students from the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences. The seminar was presented by Asst. Lecturer Al-Hassan Ali Rodan, Head of the Legal Unit in the college, who reviewed the student discipline laws and regulations and the legal procedures resulting from their violation. Prof. Dr. Thanaa Bahaa Al-Din also delivered a lecture discussing the impact of adherence or non-adherence to these laws on sustaining the mental health of university students. This seminar aimed to enhance the cultural and legal awareness of university students regarding student discipline laws and regulations, contributing to creating a safe and supportive university environment for mental health. This activity comes within the framework of the National Strategic Plan for Iraqi Women / Third Axis – Paragraph (2) and aligns with achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.

An awareness workshop entitled “The Role of Women in the Arts.”

Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the supervision of the Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, Lecturer Maryam Imran Mahdi, the Women’s Affairs Division organized an awareness workshop entitled “The Role of Women in the Arts.” The workshop was delivered by: • Lecturer Suhaila Kazem Jassim • Lecturer Miad Al-Bawi The event addressed women’s contributions to the visual, performing, and literary arts, highlighting their roles as artists, sources of inspiration, critics, and researchers. It also emphasized women’s active participation in preserving artistic heritage, managing cultural institutions, and renewing contemporary artistic concepts. The workshop affirmed that women represent a powerful creative force that has contributed significantly to the development of the Arab and global artistic scene, opening new horizons for aesthetic expression.
