Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and under the supervision of Dr. Saad Al-Alam, Head of the Measurement and Evaluation Division at the University, the College of Fine Arts held a workshop for first-year students. The workshop was conducted by Assistant Lecturer Suhaila Kazem Jasim, Head of Measurement and Evaluation at the college.
The workshop was titled “Introducing Students to How to Use the Examination Sheet” and aimed to familiarize students with the correct way to handle examination sheets, explain the model method of answering, and avoid common mistakes that may negatively affect evaluation and grades.
The workshop covered the structure and components of the examination sheet, types of questions (objective, essay, practical), and the distribution of marks. It also focused on reading and understanding questions correctly, distinguishing between action verbs such as explain, compare, list, discuss, and identifying key words in each question. Additionally, it addressed the proper way to answer questions, organizing and sequencing responses, clarity of handwriting, the importance of numbering, adhering to the required number of lines or paragraphs, and using illustrations or diagrams when necessary, especially for fine arts students.
Common mistakes were also discussed, including incomplete reading of questions, deviating from the topic, neglecting personal information, and unclear or disorganized answers. Time management during the exam was emphasized, including allocating time according to the number of questions, starting with easier questions, and reserving time for review. The workshop also included the presentation of sample examination sheets and an open discussion with students to answer their inquiries.
The workshop resulted in students gaining confidence in handling examination sheets, improving the quality of their answers, reducing mistakes, and increasing awareness of the university’s assessment and evaluation system, thereby enhancing their academic readiness and developing their practical skills.
