“Workshop Titled: The Role of Women in Emergency Preparedness”

Al-Mustaqbal University Organizes Workshop on Women’s Role in Emergency Preparedness Al-Mustaqbal University – Women’s Affairs Division, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering, organized an awareness workshop titled “The Role of Women in Emergency Preparedness”. The session was held in the Department of Building and Construction Engineering Technologies and presented by Lecturer Sally Silan Hussein on April 10, 2025. The workshop was conducted as part of the implementation of the Protection and Prevention Pillar under Clause Three (Early Warning Systems). It aimed to highlight the importance of involving women in emergency preparedness and disaster response efforts, enhancing their awareness of preventive measures, and building their capacity to handle various crises—whether natural, health-related, or societal. The workshop concluded with recommendations to involve women in emergency planning and coordination committees, provide specialized training programs, break gender stereotypes that limit women’s roles in crises to humanitarian aspects, and activate their participation in all phases of response and recovery. It also emphasized the need to launch awareness campaigns to educate women and girls about their rights and responsibilities during emergencies and to integrate women’s needs into national disaster and emergency plans, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 5.

“Workshop Titled: Protecting Women from Violence and Armed Conflicts”

Al-Mustaqbal University Holds Workshop on “Protecting Women from Violence and Armed Conflicts” Al-Mustaqbal University – Women’s Affairs Division, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering, organized a workshop in the Department of Building and Construction Engineering Technologies. The session was conducted by Lecturer Maryam Mohammed Mousa as part of the implementation of the Protection and Prevention Pillar under Clause Six (Implementation of the UN Resolution). The workshop, titled “Protecting Women from Violence and Armed Conflicts”, was held on April 20, 2025, at Al-Mustaqbal University. The workshop aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by women during armed conflicts and the urgent need to protect them from all forms of violence, particularly sexual, psychological, and social violence. It also emphasized raising awareness about the importance of enabling women to access legal aid, psychological support, and appropriate health services, while ensuring their safety in areas of displacement and conflict. Furthermore, the session focused on enhancing women’s participation in peace and security efforts, raising community awareness about the impact of conflicts on women and girls, and encouraging the adoption of national policies and legislation that ensure comprehensive protection of women’s rights during times of crisis. The workshop concluded with key recommendations, including the need to enforce laws criminalizing violence against women and establish effective mechanisms for their implementation. It also called for integrating women’s needs into humanitarian relief and emergency response plans, training security and health personnel on gender-sensitive responses, launching awareness campaigns to reject violence and promote a culture of community peace, and ensuring women’s inclusion in decision-making processes related to conflict management and peacebuilding—in line with Sustainable Development Goal 5

A workshop titled “Human Development and Self-Improvement”

Under the patronage of the respected President of the University of Al-Mustaqbal, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy, the Women’s Affairs Division, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sahira Qahtan, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit from the College of Pharmacy and the Student Activities Department, organized a workshop titled “Human Development and Self-Improvement.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Taiba Jassim and the Sustainability Ambassadors from the College of Pharmacy. It aimed to enhance women’s self-development skills and human resource growth in society, contributing to social justice and strengthening interpersonal connections. The workshop addressed key topics related to human development, including overcoming societal comparisons, eliminating bullying, and promoting self-growth. Additionally, outstanding Sustainability Ambassadors from the College of Pharmacy were honored for their significant contributions to the success of sustainable development programs and their active participation in numerous volunteer initiatives and community services. A documentary film showcasing their campaigns was presented, followed by discussion sessions with esteemed faculty members from the College of Pharmacy. This workshop falls within the framework of implementing the Third National Plan for Women, Peace, and Security (Pillar: Participation and Institutional Reform, Paragraph 10). It successfully contributed to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 4, 5, 10, and 16, which focus on good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, reduced inequalities, and peace, justice, and strong institutions.

Educational Seminar Titled “Fundamental Principles of Statistics”

Al-Mustaqbal University (Women’s Affairs Division) Organizes an Educational Seminar on “Fundamental Principles of Statistics” in Collaboration with the College of Nursing As part of the implementation of the Participation and Institutional Reform Pillar (Paragraph 7), the Women’s Affairs Division at Al-Mustaqbal University, in collaboration with the College of Nursing, organized an educational seminar titled “Fundamental Principles of Statistics” on February 22, 2025. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Mahdi Hamza Mandhur Al-Taie and supervised by Ms. Noor Fadel, Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit in the department. The seminar explored the role of statistics in scientific research, emphasizing its importance as a fundamental pillar across various fields. It highlighted that statistics is an essential tool in almost every intellectual and practical domain, particularly in the health sector. The discussion covered key topics such as the definition of statistics, its types, its significance in healthcare, and the process of creating a simple frequency distribution table. A major focus of the workshop was the importance of integrating women into the field of health statistics, which was previously dominated by men. The event served as a powerful message about the need to empower women in scientific fields, showcasing their ability to influence, innovate, and contribute to academia and professional research. This initiative strengthens women’s role in the academic and scientific community, reinforcing their presence in a rapidly evolving world

An awareness and educational campaign titled “Concepts of Justice, Human Rights, Promoting the Values of Peace and Tolerance, and Resisting Extremism.”

It seems that the campaign organized by Al-Mustaqbal University on the occasion of International Women’s Day was effective and important in raising awareness about justice, human rights, and promoting the values of peace and tolerance. Highlighting the role of women in society and the importance of their participation in various fields contributes to achieving equality and empowering them to play their active role. Additionally, distributing awareness brochures on combating extremism emphasizes the awareness of how this phenomenon affects individuals and communities. A tribute to all the efforts made to support women and enhance their role in building a more just and peaceful society. Long live Iraqi Women’s Day, and long live the Iraqi woman—strong, inspiring, and creative!

Awareness Dialogue Workshop Titled “Protecting Women in Times of Armed Conflicts”

Al-Mustaqbal University (Women’s Affairs Division) Organizes an Awareness Dialogue Workshop in Cooperation with the College of Law The Women’s Affairs Division at Al-Mustaqbal University, in collaboration with the College of Law, organized an awareness dialogue workshop titled “Protecting Women in Times of Armed Conflicts” on March 19, 2025. The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Saad Ubaid and supervised by Ms. Zainab Khalid, head of the unit at the college, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Sahira Qahtan Abdul-Jabbar, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division. This initiative aligns with the implementation of the Participation and Institutional Reform Pillar (Paragraph 7). The workshop aimed to raise awareness about protecting women from enslavement, violations, and torture during wars, ensuring their basic needs such as food, water, healthcare, and shelter. It also focused on providing psychological and social support to help women recover, reintegrate into society, and empower them to participate in reconstruction and peace processes, reinforcing their role in shaping the future. By addressing these critical issues, the workshop sought to safeguard women’s dignity and rights, even in the most challenging circumstances.

Seminar Title: “Towards Fairer Laws: The Importance of Women’s Role in Drafting Legislation”

The Women’s Affairs Division at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a seminar titled “Towards Fairer Laws: The Importance of Women’s Role in Drafting Legislation”, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sahira Qahtan Abdul Jabbar, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, and conducted by Asst. Lecturer Ilaf Jasim Mohammed. The seminar was held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in coordination with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies, Department of Fuel and Energy Technologies. It was part of the implementation of the Third National Plan for Women, Peace, and Security, under the Pillar of Participation and Institutional Reform, Clause 2. The seminar discussed the significance of women’s role in the legislative process and the challenges they face in reaching decision-making positions in politics. It focused on achieving social justice and equality for women through laws and highlighted the impact of women’s participation in drafting more inclusive policies. Additionally, the discussion addressed the importance of increasing women’s representation in parliaments and legislative councils, supported by statistics on women’s success in various parliaments worldwide. A discussion was opened for students and faculty members to exchange ideas on the best ways to empower women in political legislation. At the end of the seminar, it was emphasized that women’s participation in political legislation is not just a rights issue but a necessity for creating more just and balanced societies.

A workshop titled “The Importance of Women’s Role in Political Legislation”

The Women’s Affairs Division at Future University organized a workshop titled “The Importance of Women’s Role in Political Legislation”, under the supervision of the Women’s Affairs Unit in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies, Fuel and Energy Technologies Department, on Monday, March 10, 2025. This workshop was conducted as part of the Third National Plan for Women, Peace, and Security, focusing on the pillar of participation and institutional reform, clause 2. It was supervised by Professor Dr. Sahira Qahtan Abdul-Jabbar, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, and led by Assistant Lecturer Zahraa Salah Hadi. The workshop addressed women’s rights and their significance in strengthening their role in decision-making, ensuring fair leadership representation for women, and improving the quality of laws and legislation. It featured visual materials illustrating these rights, along with real-life examples that were discussed interactively with students using the brainstorming technique, allowing them to engage in dialogue and discussion. The workshop emphasized the importance of supporting women and enhancing their vital role in society, highlighting the impact of psychological and social support in helping them strengthen their political identity and achieve self-actualization.
