I started
working as a chainman then as an assistant site engineer.
- Some of the duties I conducted individually or within a team included managing parts of construction
projects, overseeing building work, undertaking surveys, setting out sites, checking technical designs
and drawings to ensure that they are followed correctly.
- Ensuring project packages meet agreed specifications, providing technical advice and solving
problems on site, preparing site reports and filling in other paperwork.
- Liaising with quantity surveyors about the ordering and the pricing of materials
ensuring that health and safety and sustainability policies and legislation are adhered to.
Carpenter
Family owned business
Jul 2006 - Aug 2010 (4 years 2 months)
The family business in Iraq owns a furniture shop where we manufacture and sell different types of
home furniture. I worked in the shop as a carpenter and salesman for many years.
Education
Liverpool John Moores University
Doctor of Philosophy - PhD, Civil Engineering
Oct 2017 - Mar 2022
My PhD, that I done between 2017-2022, was titled “Enhancing the removal of refractory pollutants
from water using microwave-electrocoagulation system”. The research project was aiming to develop
more efficient, environmentally friendly, and affordable technologies to help tackle the water crisis in the
world. It focused on enhancing the water treatment in terms of the removal of complex and refractory pollutants. It involved enhancing a traditional electrochemical technology called the Electrocoagulation
and combined it with Microwave technology to create a hybrid treatment system. The system showed
great efficiency in removing the targeted pollutant from water. In addition, the system proved to use
much less energy and provide a non-toxic sludge with less water content in compared with other
treatment technologies.
Liverpool John Moores University
Bachelor of Engineering - BE, Civil Engineering
Sep 2014 - Jun 2016
The undergraduate course covered several civil engineering subjects and modules. For instance,
Structural Design & Analysis, Risk Management, Advanced Materials, River and Coastal Engineering,
Infrastructures, Geotechnics and Water Engineering. In addition, the course covered CAD, Surveying,
Highways and Transportation as well as Hydraulics and Engineering Mathematics. Throughout my
studies, I have also taken part in a series of projects focused on developing my knowledge of several
fields within civil engineering.
University of Babylon
Bachelor of Engineering - BE, Civil Engineering
Aug 2010 - Jul 2013
The course covered varies civil engineering subjects such as Engineering Mechanics, Fluid Dynamics,
Engineering Mathematics, Surveying and AutoCAD, Geotechnics, Data Analysis, Concrete,
construction material, Infrastructures and other civil engineering fields.
Skills
Civil Engineering • Microsoft Office • AutoCAD • Water Engineering • Engineering • Infrastructure •
Structural Engineering • Project Planning • Construction Safety • Autodesk Civil 3D
